AMS Science and mathematics policy and advocacy

The Washington Office of the AMS

Welcome to the Washington Office! The AMS is represented in Washington by Associate Executive Director and Washington Office Director Karen Saxe and Washington Office Assistant Director Anita Benjamin.

Washington OfficeWe are located at Dupont Circle, a vibrant area in DC that is exactly one mile north of the White House, and about another mile down Pennsylvania Avenue to the U.S. Capitol building. All AMS members are warmly invited to drop by and visit. If you are planning a visit, and we have fair warning, we can arrange visits for you with your representatives in Congress, help you figure out what to talk with them about, and likely accompany you on these visits.

The AMS plays a critical role on Capitol Hill in representing mathematics as the foundational discipline upon which technological innovation and global competitiveness depends.  The Washington Office of the AMS is at the center of our science policy and advocacy efforts, and works to connect the mathematics community with Washington decision makers who impact science and education funding.
