"An Uncertainty Principle for Geometry": Review of *The Symbolic Universe: Geometry and Physics 1890-1930,* edited by Jeremy Gray. Reviewed by Peter T. Landsberg. *Nature,* 13 April 2000, pages 705-706.

The book under review consists of nine chapters by different authors, all focused on themes at the interface of geometry and physics. Covering a historical period that saw the emergence of such revolutionary notions as curved space-time, the book discusses the contributions of many of the most important researchers of the time, including Albert Einstein, Heinrich Hertz, Henri Poincare, Hermann Minkowski, and David Hilbert.
