"Computer helps police face facts," by Erica Klarreich. Nature Science Update, 5 September 2001.
Different eyewitnesses often give different descriptions of the same suspect, which presents a problem when police try to create a single sketch of a suspect. Peter Hancock of the University of Stirling in Scotland has created a program that blends different descriptions of a suspect into one computer-generated sketch. At the recent meeting of the British Association for the Advancement of Science in Glasgow, Hancock described the program and its success in a recent test.
