This is an interview with Ian Stewart in which Stewart talks about his latestbook What Shape is a Snowflake? and about the role that mathematics plays inother sciences, especially in biology. Along the way, the topics of chaos,symmetry, and bifurcations are touched on. Stewart predicts that a new kind ofscience and mathematics will emerge from the linking of mathematical ideas,such as dynamics and fractals, with the information that comes out of genetics,biochemistry, and DNA.
