The article reports on the U.S. Congressional recommendation to double the budget of the National Science Foundation (NSF). The article quotes Samuel M. Rankin III as saying, "Symbolically, this says there's bipartisan support for the NSF." Rankin is chair of the Coalition for National Science Funding, an alliance of scientific societies that builds support for NSF funding, and is also Director of the AMS's office in Washington, D.C. The bill was championed by Rep. Sherwood Boehlert.
