"Flu evolution modeled," by Helen R. Pilcher. Nature Science Update, 27 March2003.
Nature Science Update reported this timely news in mathematical biology.Robin Bush (UC Irvine) and colleagues have developed a new mathematical modelof influenza evolution that may contribute towards the development of moreeffective vaccines. The model could help predict the features of successfulstrains so that they may be contained. The researchers used data on diseasespread, human immunity, and genetics over the past 20 years, and Neil Ferguson(a mathematical biologist at Imperial College in London) developed the model. The paper was published in Nature (27 March 2003, page428).
