"Mathematics could stabilize peace treaties," by Philip Ball. Nature Science Update, 16 December 2003.
Political scientist Elisabeth Wood uses mathematical models to provide a framework for the fair resolution of civil conflicts over power, land or other resources. Wood also uses game theory to calculate the probability of outcomes based on compromises, actions and decisions of warring parties, but acknowledges that such calculations may not satisfy policy-makers or apply in real-life messy conflicts.
