The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Rochester Institute of Technology celebrated the 1996 Mathematics Awareness Week by arranging two lectures. The first one was by Dr. Paul Schweitzer of the Simon Graduate School of Business at University of Rochester. Dr. Schweitzer spoke about "Economic and Physical Bottlenecks in Production Systems."

The second talk was by Prof. William Zwicker of the Department of Mathematics at Union College, Schenectady, NY. Dr. Zwicker spoke on the topic "Myths and Misses: Coordination and Overlap in Engineering, Physics, and Mathematics."

At our request, Gov. George Pataki of New York proclaimed the week as the Mathematics Awareness Week.

In addition the Department also kept on display interesting articles and other information relating to Decision Mathematics.
