Membership Categories

Dues run from January through December.

Please read the following to determine what membership category you are eligible for, then indicate the category for which you are applying.

Regular Member

The following rates are available:

Graduate / Undergraduate Student Rate: applies to a full-time student. Annual verification is required. \$49

Unemployed Rate: applies to an unemployed mathematician. \$49

I am currently unemployed and actively seeking employment.

Introductory Rate*: applies to the first five consecutive years of regular membership. Eligibility begins with the first year of membership in any category other than student, graduate student or affiliate. \$74

Regular Rate*: applies after the first five consecutive years of regular membership.

For those whose annual professional income is below \$85,000: \$147
For those whose annual professional income is \$85,000 or more: \$196

Retired Rate*: applies after a member has retired from the profession. \$74

Joint Family Rate*: applies when one member pays regular dues based on his or her income; the other pays regular dues based on his or her income, less \$20. (Only the member paying full dues will receive the Notices and the Bulletin as a privilege of membership, but both members will be accorded all other privileges of membership.)

For those whose annual professional income is below \$85,000: \$127
For those whose annual professional income is $85,000 or more: \$176

Life Rate: a one-time payment for lifetime membership determined by age as of January 1 of the membership year

Life membership age 60 and above: \$980
Life membership age 50 to 59: \$1,960
Life membership age 40 to 49: \$2,940

Reciprocity Rate*: applies to a member who belongs to one of the foreign societies with which the AMS has established a reciprocity agreement. \$98

Reciprocating Societies: (Scroll through the list and select one if applying for Reciprocity Membership only.)

For those who reside outside the U.S. the dues are \$98.

Contributing Member*

Minimum dues are \$294. The portion ($98) which exceeds the higher regular dues level may be treated as a charitable contribution. \$294

For those who reside in an AMS-defined developing country. \$16
Affiliate members can chose only one privilege of membership journal and must indicate which journal.

*Multi-year Membership: Members are invited to purchase a multi-year membership by prepaying their current dues rate for either two, three, four or five years. This option is not available to unemployed, student, or affiliate members. Multi-year payment applies only to the membership dues, not to the journal subscriptions.
