Groups and Physics—Dogmatic Opinions of a Senior Citizen, by A. John Coleman
When Weyl and Wigner first began to introduce group-theoretic methods into quantum theory, many physicists regarded it as the "Gruppenpest." Coleman's historical survey of the role of group theory in physics describes its transformation from a pest into a fundamental tool.
