Notices of the American Mathematical Society

About Notices.

Notices of the American Mathematical Society is the world's most widely read magazine aimed at professional mathematicians.

As the magazine of record for the American Mathematical Society, Notices publicizes activities of the Society and provides opportunities for mathematicians and students of mathematics to find out what is going on in their field. Each issue of Notices contains high-level expository articles written by STEM professionals in industry and academia. Notices also regularly features AMS surveys and reports on industry trends, academia, and research; invitations to get involved and calls for nominations; community updates from the AMS, as well as news and announcements from other mathematics institutions; opinion pieces on professional issues facing mathematicians; reviews of books; and upcoming national and international meetings and conferences of interest to the readership. The editorial team invites your comments, suggestions, and submissions.

Notices of the AMS and Bulletin of the AMS are available to all AMS members electronically. If you prefer to receive a print copy of Notices of the AMS and/or Bulletin of the AMS, please opt in to this option by logging on to your online profile at www.ams.org/account. You can edit your subscription choices displayed under the Membership column. If you need any assistance, please contact Customer Service at 401.455.4000.

The online version of Notices is freely available. The online version is the official version of record and may, on occasion, differ slightly from the print version. Notices is a monthly that publishes 11 times a year, with a combined June/July issue.

Notices both solicits articles and welcomes unsolicited articles for consideration. Authors are not paid, nor are authors asked to pay an Article Processing Charge (APC). Notices publishes articles that have broad appeal for a diverse audience with many different types of readers: graduate students, academic mathematicians, industrial mathematicians, researchers in mathematics-based fields, and amateur enthusiasts. The print edition of Notices is sent to approximately 30,000 members of the AMS, most of whom are professional mathematicians. In addition, Notices is accessible for free online.

Topics. Notices seeks exceptional articles that report on major new developments in mathematics or that describe great mathematicians or episodes from mathematics history that have connections to current research in the field. We also welcome articles discussing aspects of the mathematics profession, such as grant programs, the job market, professional opportunities for mathematicians, publishing, electronic communications, and mathematics education, at all levels. In addition, we publish reviews of books. The Notices does not publish articles which are offensive or inflammatory.

Our goal is to provide valuable and enjoyable articles about new developments in mathematics and in the mathematics profession, as well as other related matters of interest. Notices is not a research journal but rather a magazine of exposition and news. Please note that all articles are refereed for technical correctness as well as exposition, and publication is contingent on making the changes required by the referees and editors.

Articles should be submitted for consideration using our peer review management system Editflow. Please see this document for guidelines to use in creating your submission. A template is available for articles in LaTeX. Please visit the Contact Notices page for additional contact information.

Classified Advertising

Target your audience through Classified Advertising

An effective and economical way to get the most applicants for your open position.

The Notices Classified Advertising section is devoted to listings of current employment opportunities. The publisher reserves the right to reject any listing not in keeping with the Society's standards. Acceptance shall not be construed as approval of the accuracy or the legality of any information therein. Advertisers are neither screened nor recommended by the publisher. The publisher is not responsible for agreements or transactions executed in part or in full based on classified advertisements.

Classified Advertising Rates will now be billed by the word at a rate of $3.65 per word. No member discounts apply.

Advertisements will be set with a minimum one-line headline, consisting of the institution name above body copy, unless additional headline copy is specified by the advertiser. Headlines will be centered in boldface at no extra charge. Ads will appear in the language in which they are submitted. Dictation over the telephone will not be accepted for classified ads.

Please note: US laws prohibit discrimination in employment on the basis of color, age, sex, race, religion, or national origin. Advertisements from institutions outside the US cannot be published unless they are accompanied by a statement that the institution does not discriminate on these grounds whether or not it is subject to US laws.

Display Advertising

Make an impact through Display Advertising

Increase your sales and connect with new customers.

Notices makes it possible for all companies and institutions to advertise products and services to the community of mathematicians, statisticians, computer scientists, engineers, and other professionals who are regular readers of this influential publication.

  • Get your products in front of your target audience regularly by placing monthly or multiple ads each year. Advertising rates in Notices are reduced for advertisers placing four or more ads per yearly volume.
  • Build customer recognition by placing your ad in the same position in each issue. Even if you cannot contract for the steady exposure of a premium position in Notices, you can still arrange to have your full-page ad appear in the same position—next to a high-profile section or feature—in each issue, and at no extra charge.
  • Any individual or institutional member is entitled to a 20% discount on display ads. This discount does not apply to university presses or advertising agencies, nor publishers with whom members are associated.
  • JMM Partner organizations are entitled to a 50% discount off the list price of display ads. This discount cannot be combined with a publisher or institutional member discount.
  • An additional 10% discount off the published advertising rate is extended to publishers, advertising agencies, and corporate members.

Instructions
Please supply, for each advertisement, insertion instructions that clearly state: name of publication, advertiser, date to be inserted, size, and identification of advertisement, plus any special instructions.

Copy Requirements
PDFs are required. All display artwork must be submitted measuring the exact dimensions outlined below without crop marks. The AMS will not accept artwork floating on a larger page or with a margin causing the final document dimensions to exceed these measurements. Advertisements submitted with crop marks or incorrect dimensions will be sent back to the advertiser for corrections. Originals are preferred, but the AMS will accept copy to be typeset. The AMS will charge advertisers cost + 25% for normal copy; difficult composition and/or extensive alterations from advertiser will be charged according to the labor involved.
