Abstract:
We produce necessary and sufficient conditions of a homotopy-theoretic nature for a link of $2$-spheres in ${S^4}$ to be slice (i.e., cobordant to the unlink). We give algebraic conditions on the link group sufficient to guarantee sliceness, generalizing the known results for boundary links. The notion of a "stable link" is introduced and shown to be useful in constructing cobordisms in dimension $4$.References
