2025 Workshop for Department Chairs and Leaders
The American Mathematical Society hosts an annual workshop for department chairs and leaders. In this one-day session, the objective is to provide opportunities for participants to share ideas and experiences and to foster the development of a community of peers who can continue to provide one another support and ideas in the vital role of department chair.
- Who: Chairpersons from all types of departments and institutions, chairs-to-be, directors of undergraduate study, directors of graduate study, and non-titular leaders
- When: Tuesday, January 7, 2025, 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. PST
- Where: Sheraton Grand Seattle, Jefferson Room
- Topics: effective meeting management, supporting students seeking non-academic careers, ideas for orientation of new faculty, and conflict management.
Registration Fees:
- \$240–AMS members
- \$360–non-AMS members
- Participation includes a complimentary breakfast and lunch.

- The workshop provides an opportunity to share experiences about issues and trends that have an impact on math department chairs, math departments, and colleges and universities. Previous topics have included resources, handling stress (students, staff and faculty), curriculum, and instructional delivery.
- The workshop is sponsored by the AMS Office of Mathematical Programs and Professional Services.
