All articles submitted to this journal are peer-reviewed. The AMS has a single blind peer-review process in which the reviewers know who the authors of the manuscript are, but the authors do not have access to the information on who the peer reviewers are.
This journal is devoted to research articles of the highest quality in all areas of pure and applied mathematics.
Information can be found on the journal's Submission for Peer Review page.
The AMS Journals Digitization Project has established a complete digital archive of the back issues of the Journal of the American Mathematical Society from 1988 to 1995. All of these back issues are freely available electronically with fully searchable content. The digitization of the back issues of this journal was made possible through the generous support of an anonymous donor. To access this material click on "All Issues: 1988-Present."

As of July 1, 2021, the backlog for this journal was approximately 2 issues. This estimate is the result of dividing the number of manuscripts for this journal in the Providence office that have not yet gone to the printer on the above date by the average number of articles per issue over the previous twelve months, reduced by the number of issues published in four months (the time necessary for editing and composing a typical issue). In an effort to make articles available as quickly as possible, articles are electronically published on the AMS website individually after proof is returned from authors and before appearing in an issue.
Offprints are provided free of charge in electronic form to all authors. A downloadable and printable PDF version of each article is available from the AMS website following print publication. Notification email containing access information is sent to all authors as soon as an issue is published in print. This electronic delivery system provides authors with permanent electronic access to their published material.
Any inquiries concerning a paper that has been accepted for publication that cannot be answered via the manuscript tracking system should be sent by email or by postal mail to the Electronic PrePress Department, American Mathematical Society, 201 Charles Street, Providence, RI 02904-2213 USA.
