In the recent awards ceremony for the Intel Science Talent Search, two of thetop three (and three of the top six) awards were given to students who had doneprojects in mathematics. Jacob Licht of West Hartford, CT received a US$75,000scholarship for second place, Emily Riehl of Bloomington, IL, was awarded thethird place US$50,000 scholarship and Nikita Rozenblyum of New York, NY wasawarded a US$25,000 scholarship for sixth place. Each of the 40 finalists in thecompetition had an asteroid named in his or her honor.
