Jane Hawkins (center) gives testimony on Capitol Hill in support of NSF funding in the FY2005 budget

AMS Committee on Science Policy Chair, Jane Hawkins, testified on March 25, 2004 before the House Appropriations Subcommittee on VA, HUD and Independent Agencies.  The testimony was part of a joint statement by the American Mathematical Society, American Chemical Society, American Physical Society and the Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology urging increased support for the National Science Foundation's FY 2005 budget. This joint testimony emphasized the importance of funding all fields of scientific research and education and gave examples of the critical need for broad federal support across disciplines in order to maintain the health and vibrancy of the U.S. scientific enterprise.  To read the full text of this testimony, click here (PDF file).
