Meetings Child Care Grants

Meetings are an important part of your professional development. The Child Care Grants program provides small grants that may be used for any form of child care that frees parents to participate more fully in a meeting.

Participant with child at JMMThe Joint Mathematics Meetings

January 6 - 9, 2021, Washington DC

The AMS and the MAA provide grants of US\$250 per family to help with the cost of child care for registered participants of JMM. The funds may be used for any form of child care that frees a parent to participate more fully in JMM, whether on-site or at home.

You must be registered for the JMM as well as be a member of the AMS or MAA in order to apply for this program. Grants are awarded on a first-come, first-served basis, one per family.

The application window will open in September, and the deadline for applications will be in mid-October. Final decisions on recipients will be made in mid-November. The JMM does not offer any on-site child care services, nor will the AMS and MAA make any recommendations for child care providers. All grant recipients must make their own arrangements if they choose to use a local child care provider.

AMS Sectional Meetings

The AMS provides a limited number of reimbursement grants of US$125 per family to help with the cost of child care for registered participants of Sectional Meetings. These funds may be used for any form of child care that frees a parent to participant more fully in the meeting, whether on-site or at home.

You must be registered for the meeting as well as be an AMS member in order to apply for this program. Grants are awarded on a first-come, first-served basis, one per family, and one per season (i.e. Spring or Fall).

Final decisions on recipients are made approximately three weeks after the application deadline. Please see each application for details. The AMS does not offer any on-site child care services, nor will the AMS make any recommendations for child care providers. All grant recipients will must make their own arrangements if they choose to use a local child care provider.

All grant funds will be awarded in the form of a check, which will be issued at the meeting. Details on this process will be sent to all recipients before the meeting, but please note that each recipient will be required to submit a completed W-9 form prior to the meetings to receive a check. Please note that all recipients are solely responsible for arranging child care. You may apply this grant toward child care expenses at home or at the meeting (such as hiring a nanny at home, bringing a caregiver with you, etc.). This gives you the freedom to use these funds in the way that is most useful to your family.
