The AMS Banquet was held on Saturday night, January 18, at the Hyatt Regency Constellation Ballroom. Approximately 200 attendees enjoyed dinner and brief talks by AMS Executive Director John Ewing and outgoing AMS President Hyman Bass. Carol Ann Blackwood, the recently retired AMS Membership Manager, was honored for over 30 years of service to the Society. No doubt many AMS members recall being greeted over the years by Carol-Ann in the AMS book exhibit at meetings in the U.S. and around the world.
Although anyone can attend the banquet, those who have been an AMS member for 25 years or more were recognized in an entertaining presentation by John Ewing. Also, each year an award is given to the longest-standing member of the AMS present at the banquet. This year there was a tie: awards were given to Harvey Cohn and Leonard Gillman. They each joined in 1942, and therefore have been AMS members for 61 years!
